The ABCs of Public Education is North Carolina’s primary school improvement program providing school-level accountability.  The model focuses on the annual growth of students and on each school’s performance composite which is the percentage of students scoring at or above grade level (Level III or IV).  The ABCs performance composite includes the reading and math for grades 3-8 and science for grades 5 and 8. The courses at the high school includes:  Algebra I, Algebra II, English I, US History, Civics and Economics, Physical Science, and Biology.  In addition, the NC Extend 1 and NC Extend 2 alternate assessments are included for certain students with disabilities.

Weldon City Schools is pleased to announce that Weldon Elementary School, Roanoke Valley Early College and Weldon Middle School met Expected Growth.  Roanoke Valley Early College has the honor of being recognized as a School of Distinction wherein over 80% of the students met proficiency goals.  Weldon Elementary School has been recognized as a School of Progress.  Weldon STEM High School’s performance composite increased to 63%.

“We are very pleased with the positive results we experienced in our ABCs performance for the 2010-11 school year,” said Superintendent Elie Bracy. The faculty and staff of Weldon City Schools continue to “Charge Into Excellence” with a level of enthusiasm that motivates our students.  “We are totally committed to the on-going improvement of our students; therefore, we are moving forward with innovative instructional best practices in every classroom to actively engage our students.”  We look forward to the continuous success of this district!
