Weldon Superintendent Reflects on School Year
Weldon City Schools Superintendent Thankful For First Year
WELDON, NC 23 MAY 2023- Today marks the last day of classes for students and teachers in Weldon City Schools (WCS) for the 2022-23 school year. And, it is the completion of the first year as Superintendent of WCS for Dr. Dannie T. Williams. Dr. Williams arrived in Weldon just before the beginning of the 2022-23 school year, and he hit the ground running to make good on his goal to work for and support the students, staff, and families of Weldon City Schools.
“This has been an amazing year,” offered Superintendent Williams. “This has been a team effort with our teachers and staff, and what we’ve done in this first year is just the first step in our continued path of success,” he added. “Being able to watch our students grow and learn, and witnessing how our staff has taken more ownership of their roles throughout the year is invigorating,” Dr. Williams concluded.
Superintendent Williams began the school year with the school system deemed in low-performing status by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. By mid-year, that status was removed from the school system due to the majority of the schools within the system no longer deemed low-performing (on an individual school basis). Dr. Williams' first year as Superintendent is highlighted by the securing of funds from the state to build a new combined middle and high school. Design plans and work for the new school has already begun.
“Most importantly, I want to thank our staff and families for their continued support, and let’s keep pushing forward to build on the work we’ve already done,” said Superintendent Williams.
